Our Survivor: Marly Zager

A few words from Marly: It's an honor to be chosen as this year's survivor for Go Red.  My immediate family and I have been on quite a medical journey beginning on March 20th 2010.  On that evening my youngest brother Johnny collapsed with Sudden Cardiac Arrest.  His is a miracle story as he was revived, and is among the only 3% who survive this collapse.  He is now thriving.  On October 30th, 2010, my middle son Ranjit, collapsed and died in Manhattan.  He did not survive..  Since then all the members of my family have been tested for Coronary Artery Disease.  All of us were diagnosed with varying stages of coronary artery blockages. Mine were the most advanced.

This March I was diagnosed with two 90% blockages and had two stents placed in my left coronary artery.  I also have at least four other blockages in varying degrees which I plan to help make sure stay under control.  I have been proactive from the beginning, learning all I can and staying involved with my truly fine, caring Doctors and  Nurse practitioner  Above all, I have learned that along with them, to stay well, "If it's to be, it's up to me".  A positive attitude and a passion for living are what keep me well.
