Dr. Michael Gharacholou
Dr. Michael Gharacholou is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Mayo Clinic and director of cardiac catheterization at Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse. He completed his residency and fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center, along with advanced training in echocardiography and interventional cardiology at Mayo Clinic and the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Dr. Gharacholou has particular interest in heart attack management and has published on this topic in several peer-reviewed journals including the American Heart Journal, the American Journal of Cardiology, the Journal of Cardiac Failure, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. He also has specialized clinical training in geriatrics and has a research interest in geriatric cardiology. Areas of focus in his practice have recently involved program development, patient safety in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, and quality improvement projects related to heart attack care. In addition to his practice at Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare, Dr. Gharacholou is an attending physician at Mayo Clinic a few days per month to work with physician trainees and remains involved in resident education.
