Heart & Stroke Gala

Saturday, November 18, 2017

A Celebration of creating and sharing. Our evening celebrates: our work and mission; our donors and volunteers; and — most importantly — the lives saved and improved because of everyone’s effort. The Heart & Stroke Gala promises to be an engaging evening of fun and passion bringing community and philanthropic leaders together.

The Heart and Stroke Gala mission for 2017 is to focus on childhood obesity prevention and community health through Recess RebootRecess Reboot is an opportunity to provide much needed schools the equipment and tools necessary to promote physical activity and a healthy life style to those who may not have the opportunity otherwise.

Research has shown that if a child is overweight by their 12th birthday, there is a 70% chance that child will be overweight the rest of their life. The simple truth is that healthy (and unhealthy) behaviors form early.

Today, about 2/3 of kids and half of adults still don’t get enough physical activity. To further complicate matters, school budgets are shrinking and many schools in our community are unable to provide the necessary recess and PE equipment to support the AHA’s recommendation of 60 minutes of daily physical activity. We can change that with the help of our Recess Reboot community partners.

Heart and Stroke Gala and the Recess Reboot initiative, sponsors & donors like you will help us in our goal by:
    • Providing the PE equipment necessary to keep kids doing what they do best –playing!
    • Continuing developing best in class PE curriculum for teachers at no cost
    • Supporting the American Heart Association’s continued fight to urge lawmakers to require updated PE standards and grade-specific benchmarks
    • Helping us ensure that the meals and snacks fed to our children during the school day meet the very best standards in nutrition
